Three powerful women of the Indian Navy, who created history – Kumudini Tyagi, Riti Singh & Shivangi Singh

Today is a special day for the Indian Navy, one of the three armed forces of the country. Today is Indian Navy Day. Every year on 4th December, the country celebrates Navy Day.

This special day is in honour of the marines who protect the country’s maritime borders. There is a proud story for the country behind celebrating Navy Day on this day.

On December 4, 1971, the soldiers of the Indian Navy gave a strong thrashing to Pakistan. On this day, along with Pakistan’s PNS Khyber, the country’s navy had defeated many big fighter warships.

After this defeat, Pakistan suffered a major setback. Indian Navy Day is celebrated on this day to celebrate India’s victory over Pakistani warships at sea.

Strong women officers are also posted in the Indian Navy, who on their own reached a big position in the Navy.

First two women officers to be posted on naval warships

The Indian Navy saw the significant deployment of two women officers last year. For the first time in the history of the Indian Navy, two women officers got the rank in Navy warships.

In this one name is of Kumudini Tyagi and the other is of Riti Singh. Both the women were selected as ‘Observers’ (Airborne Tacticians) in the helicopter stream.

After this, women will be able to be deployed on the frontline warships of the Navy. Sub Lieutenant Kumudini Tyagi and Sub Lieutenant Riti Singh have become the country’s first women Airborne Tacticians.

Sub Lieutenant Kumudini Tyagi

Kumudini Tyagi is originally from the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. Belonging to Kharkhoda village in Meerut, Kumudini had started insisting on joining the army only after the 10th examination.

After completing B.Tech, he started preparing to join the force. She worked day and night and joined the Navy.

In December 2018, Kumudini was commissioned inside the Navy. Kumudini’s father runs a security agency. Dada Suresh Chand Tyagi was a sub-inspector in the police.

Sub Lieutenant Riti Singh

According to reports, three generations of Riti Singh’s family served in the army. Riti’s father SK Singh is retired from the Indian Navy. Whereas his mother is an English teacher.

He also has an elder sister. Riti was born in 1996 in Uttar Pradesh but later shifted to Hyderabad with her family in 2002.

Navy woman pilot Shivangi Singh

The Air Force team includes a large consignment of powerful fighter aircraft. Women pilot Shivangi Singh is also included in the Navy team to fly these Navy fighter planes.

A big achievement in the name of Shivangi Singh is that she has become the first woman pilot to fly a powerful fighter aircraft Rafale. Shivangi Singh hails from the Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh.

His father’s name is Kumareshwar Singh and his mother is Seema Singh. Shivangi has two brothers Mayank and Shubhanshu and a sister Himanshi Singh. Shivangi’s maternal grandfather VN Singh was a colonel in the army.

Shivangi dreamed of flying a fighter jet since childhood, which was fulfilled in the year 2017 when she was selected in the team of five women fighter aircraft pilots of the country.

Shivangi flew in MiG 21. Represented the Uttar Pradesh team in the Republic Day 2013 Parade in Delhi and is now preparing to fly to Rafale.
